Paul Threatt, a web and graphic designer, who lives near Atlanta, filed a complaint against Apple tablet to FTC for misrepresenting Apple iPad’s features. The promotional picture of Apple iPad, posted on Apple’s official website, showed that the device is displaying some portions of New York Times that requires Adobe Flash player. In another promotional video it is also shown that Adobe Flash plug-in is working fine on the tablet PC. After reading the report, I went to the official website of Apple and found two promotional pictures of Apple iPad tablet PC showing New York Times on its display. One picture shows the iPad in display in portray mode while the other in landscape mode. Computer World reports:
A collection of still images halfway down the Times front page, which represent segments on the site’s video section, need Flash to appear but are visible as a user looks over the front page in the Apple clip. Likewise, a slideshow of images accompanying the article "The 31 Places to Go in 2010" require Flash, yet one of those pictures shows up in the promotional video and an image of the iPad on Apple’s page. (In another twist, in the video, the slideshow begins at what appears to be the 14th image, even though on the Web it starts with the first picture.)
Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, unveiled Apple’s much talked about tablet on January 27, 2010 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco. The device is called Apple iPad. At 10 a.m. Mr. Jobs with huge applause appeared on the stage and unveiled the Apple iPad tablet PC. While showing various features of the tablet PC, Mr. Jobs accessed the New York Times website and at that time, some portions of the website that required Adobe flash players displayed missing plug-in message.
According to Adobe, more than 70% of all games and 75% of all video on web requires Adobe Flash but Apple devices like the iPod, iPhone and iPad, does not support flash. Adobe spokesman Stefan Offerman said that Adobe was not approached by Apple before the announcement of iPad.
